IN THE KIT:

USING THIS TOOL.

K9 Scout is employed to gain visual access into areas where personnel exposure is unacceptable or unnecessary. During entries, searches, and standoff situations, the K9 Scout can be advanced ahead of officers or operators to confirm hazards, locate subjects, and verify routes without committing a person to the threshold. The system is typically used in short cycles: deploy for a look, drive to clear angles, hold for observation when needed, then reposition as conditions change.

Employment Examples:

  • Threshold check (throw-in): From cover, throw the K9 Scout past the fatal funnel, allow it to settle, then clear near corners and identify occupants, hazards, or obstructions.

  • Hallway movement: Drive Scout down the hallway ahead of the stack, stopping at doorways to check angles and confirm the next segment is clear before moving personnel.

  • Room-to-room progression: After a clear, rethrow or roll Scout into the next room to confirm vacancy or locate a subject prior to committing officers or operators.

  • Barricaded subject / standoff: Place Scout in a protected position with line of sight on primary avenues, maintain observation, and reposition only to regain or improve angle.

  • Vehicle approach: Send Scout under and around a vehicle to check for movement, hazards, or hidden persons without placing an officer on the bumper.

  • Obstacle and threshold traversal: Use steady throttle to climb over door thresholds, debris, and uneven flooring; pause after each obstacle to reorient and reestablish a clean visual.

  • Low-light interiors: Use headlights to work dark rooms, basements, and closets; keep speed low to maintain image clarity and reduce washout.

  • Extended overwatch: Leave Scout posted as a static observation & communications node when time is needed, using endurance to maintain eyes-on with periodic micro-repositions to refresh angles.
